If you hear about Lisbon the first what comes to your mind is sightseeing of beautiful monuments or cities, sunbathing, trying the local cuisine in the presence of good Portuguese wine. Not everyone knows, that one of the sport which you can try at any time of the year almost everywhere here is surfing. Beginners and advanced surfers will find a place suitable for them. On many beaches we can find rental of the equipment and lessons with an instructor at affordable price.
Around Lisbon there are several places recommended for surfing and here are some of them:
- Praia de Carcavelos
One of the nearest beach around the city. It is possible to get there within 20 min by train from Lisbon city center. Carcavelos beach is popular for sunbathers and for beginner surfers as well. Why for beginners? Despite the wind, the waves are not so high which helps them to take their first steps in this sport.
- Ericeira and Praia de Ribeira d’Ilhas
Ericeira iself has a small beach in the center which is perfect for sunbathing. However, if we go a bit further beautiful place with breathtaking view which is Praia de Ribeira d’Ilhas. There we can find some surf schools. Everybody who are not afraid of bigger waves and wind can choose this place.
- Praia do Guincho
It is situated in the area of the National Park- Serra da Sintra. This place attracts more fans of surfing than people who enjoy sunbathing. Moreover, big waves and cold wind make impossible swimming in the ocean. Here surfing is recommended for advanced surfers than beginners because of more difficult conditions.
